[edit] DME Install
This is the installation of the DME Rear Strut Bar for the Scion tC. The rear strut bar install was a little more involved than the front and some things should be noted.
[edit] Tools Required
- 14mm socket
- 10mm socket
- socket wrench
- flat head screw driver
- phillips screw driver
[edit] Notes
This car had the Greddy Rear Strut bar before so some of the panels have already been cut and in some of the pictures you will see parts of the Greddy bar. There are not that many pictures here, but the main pictures will give you a better understanding of what is needed for this rear brace install. The process is really quick and easy and should take you at most a half hour.
The installation is also easier if you leave the bar unassembled (i.e. in its 3 separate components: 2 end caps, and 1 center bar).
[edit] The Process
Start by emptying your Scion's trunk area, floor cover, spare tire, and the 2 pockets on each side of the spare. Move to the side panels and remove the screw (phillips) above the hanger. Then move to your right and take the flat head and pop the clip out.
Move downwards and take the hanger out with the 10mm socket. You should be able to now take the panel off by pulling outwards on it.
Repeat the above steps for the opposite side of your Scion tC.
Remove the panel with the flap that goes over the rear seats when they are folded flat. There are a few 10mm bolts that hold a clip onto it and then it will pull straight up. This will give you more room to access the rear strut bolts.
Locate and remove the strut bolts with the 14mm socket
Once all of the bolts are removed, place the DME end caps in place and you will then see where you need to cut the side panels.
It may look better if you just cut a little flap and let it hang over the end mounts which will give it a cleaner look. Put back the center panel and then secure the bar in place. Replace all of the panels in the opposite way you pulled them.
[edit] Ingalls Install
This installation will show you how to install the Ingalls rear strut brace on your Scion tC. Expect the installation to take around two hours if you follow this guide.
[edit] Tools Required
- Drill
- Drill bits
- Knife or cutting tools
- 10mm socket
- 14mm socket
- socket wrench
[edit] Notes
Fitment of the Ingalls bar was just fine, but drilling out the one hole on the left side was not easy. I burned a drill bit using the size they recommend, and ended up using a smaller bit and just working it around until the hold would accept the bolt supplied. Quality drill bits are recommended.
I used a steak knife to cut the foam to fit. The process is not too difficult but will take some time. Be careful.
