[edit] DME Install
The DME front strut bar install was a little easier than the rear and some things should be noted.
Basically this is a 5 minute job, but its a fun 5 minute job.
[edit] Tools Required
- 14mm socket
- socket wrench
- flat head screw driver
- phillips screw driver
[edit] The Process
Start by popping hood. Locate the windshield washer caps (1 plastic cap on each blade) and use the flat head to pop it off as shown and repeat for the other blade.
Use the 14 mm socket to remove that nut and place somewhere that won't lose it! Now take out the wiperblades. Using the philips head screw driver, pop the 4 clips loose. Once those clips are gone pull up and out on the cowl to remove it.
Take the 14 mm socket, loosen and take off all 6 bolts on the top of the struts. Once the bolts are removed, place the DME strut bar over them and bolt them back down.
Tighten them all up so they are nice and snug (Torque to 38ft-lbs). Reinstall the wiper cowl opposite of how it came out. Put the wiperblades back on and the caps that go over the nuts.
[edit] DC Sports Install
This tutorial will guide you through the installation of a strut bar on your Scion tC. The strut bar featured in this article is made by DC Sports. Original Scion tutorial by Alex8181 from club-tc.com. He rates this installation diffuculty as a medium (3/5) and that it should take around 45 minutes to complete.
Although the DC Sports strut bar is featured in this How-To, many if not most of the other brands will install in exactly the same way. So read this tutorial and save some money by working on your own Scion tC.
[edit] Tools and Materials
You will need basic hand tools and a floor jack to complete the installation of a strut bar on your Scion tC.
[edit] The Procedure
The first step is to remove the four plastic plugs (clips) that hold the plastic cowl that covers the suspension bolts. There are two plastic clips on each side of the car.
Now unscrew the nuts that are holding the upper shock to the body with a 14mm wrench and/or socket. Make sure you do not remove the third nut that is closest to the fenders (the ones furthest away from the engine bay)
You need to next lift the front of the car up using a floor jack so that the front wheels are off the ground. Note: This is why you needed to leave one of the nuts attached in step 3. This will keep th bolts peeking through at the top of the suspension tower.
Place your strut bar down into its location and screw the nuts back on by hand to hold the strut bar in place.
Now drop your Scion back to the ground and tighten all the bolts. You will want to torque the nuts to the factory specs of 38 ft-lbs (foot pounds). Re-install the plastic clips to hold the cowl in place and you are done with the installation
