[edit] What is the Scion xD?
- The Scion xD is the replacement of the 4-door hatch back Scion xA. The xA was the least popular Scion vehicle and the xD is meant to improve on the design to reach a broader audience. Piggybacking off the xA's basic 4-door hatchback layout, the Scion xD improves mostly on the aesthetics. The xD is larger, and looks more aggressive. The tuned version of the xD reflects the aftermarket potential of this new car.
- The Scion xA was the USDM version of Japan's Toyota ist.
- The Scion xD is the USDM version of Japan's 2nd Generation Toyota ist.

- Scion has done well in the optional accessory arena. They are known for offering well equiped base model vehicles with an extensive list of option accessories and addons. The majority of these are luxury and or aesthetic upgrades, although there are a handful of performance enhancements available as well. - The Scion xD follows the standard naming convention implemented early on by the Scion xA and xB. The tC is the only Scion car so far that does not carry the "x".
[edit] Why is the Scion xD so similar to the Scion xA?
- The xA was not a hot seller when compared to the other Scion cars. Toyota may have wanted to continue the xA, but opted to do a heavy redesign and introduce a new name for marketing reasons. For all intents and purposes, the Scion xD is really the xA version 2. Similarly, the Scion xB version two received a ground up renovation, but maintained its popular name.
